The retina display is also nothing to scoff at.

I'm not too sure how resource-friendly OSX is. I've been designing ad wraps, and they've been less than forgiving at times to my system. I got a bit curious when people started telling me that there are less crashes on Macs than on PCs, (which I would personally attribute to computer maintenance more than anything) so it's more reliable in going pro, especially in large formats. I use a Note 3 cuz it's just superb with Autodesk Sketchbook.

Having Windows 95 as my first shot at a computer, and having grown up with the OS, I was afraid that there are things I might have a hard time with on moving to Apple, since I've never owned an Apple product in my life. Thanks for the info, guys! I appreciate it A LOT! It really calms my inner turmoil to read that a good number of veterans have no problems transitioning from a PC to a Mac and vice versa. And one last tip - ONLY buy models with SSD drives - they are a bit more pricy but well worth it. It's worth every penny, especially with a separate drive for time machine backups. Taking all that into account, I'd still go for it. There's a huge gap, even compared to a mid-range Eizo. While I wouldn't worry about that if you're not doing serious print work, my point is really I wouldn't call apple screens "superior".

Same for the quality, not only are the screens glossy but there are far better alternatives in terms of color reproduction.

I don't even open photoshop on it unless I have an external monitor beside me, even though Photoshop is said to be optimized for Retina. I love working on my 27" iMac but loathe it on my 15" retina macbook. If you have a mainly vector workflow you might not care, but if you're working with the web a lot the retina screen quickly becomes frustrating, you have to work at 200% zoom which often results in a blurry mess. I'm saying this as a Mac user: the retina screen, while great for content consuming is not so great for content creation. In the end, no one will be asking you if you used a PC/Mac to make a kick ass design. If you like working with Macs, use a Mac. Honestly, at the end of the day, it's about your preference. I know it sounds weird/odd but you might not like the Macbook and can save yourself a fair bit of money before investing in one. Why not ask someone who has a Macbook if you can borrow it to test it out, even just for 10 minutes. Since you said you're going to have a Mac in work and have a PC at home, I'd say not to get a Macbook because from my own experience, the transition from PC to Mac is practically seamless, save for a tiny bit of trouble with navigating and using the keyboard. Obviously, the sizes are different from a Mac to laptop but I prefer how crisp the Mac screen is. My experience with using a Mac in college versus using a HP laptop at home is that a Mac has the better screen (i.e. Join our Discord server Design Subreddits LIST Please report any posts which break these rules, to maintain the quality of the subreddit.
